In between the early morning Trevi fountain and the afternoon Trevi fountain (see the previous posts), I walked to Campo del Fiori, where there's a well-known market.  Today being Sunday there were only vendors of tourist stuff, but I got some packets of spices that are a sort of mix for adding to pasta.
A 19th century shopping mall on the way.  This is not Campo di Fiori.

Random ruins

Campo di Fiori (note lack of fiori)

Campo di Fiori.  Statue is of Giordano Bruno, who was burned at the stake there  in 1600.

Piazza Navona.

Column in Piazza Colona - It's modeled after Trajan's column.

  1. Peggy,

The ruins are, I believe, Largo di Torre Argentina, which is it is believed that Julius Caesar was killed. The column is the Trajan's Column and the guy on top of it is St. Peter. That whole part of the city around the Piazza Venezia and the Roman Forum is beautiful at night.

Hope you guys are enjoying Rome!

  2. Thanks! We're having a great time. As you can tell, we're heavy on walking around and light on actually reading guidebooks....

  4. Actually, the column is one that was fashioned after Trajan's column, but it's in Piazza Colonna, and that's St. Paul at the top. The ruins are Area Sacra on Corso Vittoro Emanuelle.
