The cat sanctuary is in the former storage area for the excavation of Largo di Argentina, which is a set of buildings dating from 300 BC. The sanctuary spays and neuters the cats, arranges adoptions and houses the cats that can't be adopted. The healthy cats go out and wander around the ruins, which upsets the archeologists. They've tried to get the sanctuary shut down, which seems short-sighted, since without the sanctuary the cats wouldn't be neutered so there would be thousands more of them.
